The term “conveyor” refers to industrial equipment, quite different in design and bearings used there. In general, conveyors serve to sequentially move materials or products from one place to another. Some conveyors serve only for transportation, while others perform operations, for example, assembly or sorting, during the transfer.
In this type of conveyors, like a conveyor belt, materials are moved along a long belt that is stretched over rollers or drums lined up in a row. Accordingly, the roller bearings of the conveyor and the bearings of the conveyor drum are used there. Belt conveyors for lump and loose rocks used in the mining industry are operated under conditions of exposure to dust, moisture and temperature changes. Therefore, the housing bearings for bulk materials conveyors are well protected from aggressive working media by means of external seals, contact or labyrinth seals. For ease of installation, they are most often installed in stationary bearing housings that are bolted to a suitable surface.
In conveyors working in enclosed spaces, the principle is the same, but the working conditions are different. The structure and the device may be different, for example a roller or plate conveyor. Bearings of the conveyor, assembly or packaging, are usually equipped with bearing units of type Y. They are very simple not only in the installation of the housing, but also in mounting on the shaft.
In the drives of conveyors – electric motors, reducers, shaft supports – industrial bearings of various types are used.
